About Me
I’m Lucy Ballinger
I am a BPS Chartered and HCPC Registered Sport & Exercise Psychologist.
I have worked across many sports including football, tennis, rugby, cricket, swimming, golf, athletics and boxing, and a range of ages from 8-63 years.
My interest in sport psychology came as a result of getting injured playing netball and as sport played a big part of my life, I found it difficult when I couldn’t play.
I know first-hand how frustrating and challenging being injured can be.
It was the psychological side that I struggled with most (e.g., feeling that I had been forgotten about, missing out and not knowing what to do with my time when I should have been training) and I felt that I didn’t get the support that I needed, so I was determined to make sure that others didn’t go through what I went through.
Whilst I am still passionate about supporting injured athletes/players, I am also passionate about supporting all athletes/players, no matter their age, level or sport.
My Approach
I believe that building relationships is key to sport psychology.
Who is going to open up to someone if they do not trust them?
Therefore, I place an emphasis on building a rapport and relationship with whoever I am working with, whilst I am also keen to get to know the ‘person’ behind the athlete/player or coach/staff.
I aim to create a safe space where you can be yourself and feel comfortable sharing your thoughts and feelings.
Whilst I am also passionate about performance and wellbeing and believe that they go hand in hand.
